Getting fish from the wild has become an uphill task as a result of:
1. Overfishing by the big fishing companies.
2. In adequate facilities by the local fishermen to compete for the available resources in the wild.
While there are many different fish culture methods, fish cage culture is among the best and cheapest methods, especially because of the costs of water. The Ebute Afuye water from fish cage farmers were initially established and empowered by the Lagos State Government through a World bank sponsored program ( APPEAL Project) to support and encourage the natives, who are predominantly fishermen, to mitigate the challenges of reduction or lack of fish catch from the wild.
While there are many fish culture metods, Cage culture is among the best simply because of the little cost of water. Lagos state government through a World Bank assisted program (APPEAL Project) empowered the Ebute Afuye community who were predominantly fisherfolks, with the fish cages to ameliorate their sufferings as a results of the lack or insignificant catch from the wild.
